MESSIAH: MARCUS SEEBACH’S FIRST-EVER INTERVIEW
A short conversation after a historic night in Athens — and the very first interview ever given by MESSIAH vocalist Marcus Seebach.
THE CONVERSATION — IN FULL

A FIRST, AFTER ANOTHER FIRST
Some interviews last an hour. Others last only a few minutes — yet document a moment worth remembering.
On October 10, 2026, Swiss death/thrash pioneers MESSIAH finally performed in Greece, 42 years after their formation. Following their show at Temple Athens, I had the pleasure of speaking with vocalist Marcus Seebach, who joined the band in 2022.
What made the encounter especially memorable was that, according to Marcus, this was the first interview he had ever given. For a musician fronting a band with such a long history, that is quite a milestone — and one we are delighted to share with the Altars of Metal audience.
Drummer Steve Karrer and guitarist R.B. Brögi joined parts of our conversation, adding insights into MESSIAH’s upcoming plans. The discussion was spontaneous and friendly, taking place while the energy of the concert was still fresh.

FROM ATHENS TO MESSIAH’S NEXT CHAPTER
Greece made an impression
With no real chance to go sightseeing, the band saw only a glimpse of the country. Marcus nevertheless describes Greece as beautiful and says the visit made him eager to return.
Exciting — and demanding
Marcus calls his time with the band an incredible experience. Although he knew the musicians before joining, working together has also brought its challenges.
New writing in 2027?
Steve explains that MESSIAH plan to spend more time composing in 2027, with fewer concerts. The band mentions 2028 as a target for a possible new album — not a confirmed release date.
Power, aggression and enjoying the music
We discuss modern death metal’s growing technicality. Marcus underlines the importance of enjoyment, perspective and the kind of aggression that still gives metal its unmistakable character.
35 years of Choir of Horrors
The conversation also touches on the 35th anniversary of MESSIAH’s landmark 1991 album Choir of Horrors, recently celebrated at a Swiss concert in Zug with Nasty Savage. The Athens performance made one thing clear: MESSIAH are honoring their history without abandoning their future.
SHORT IN LENGTH. BIG IN SIGNIFICANCE.
Forty-two years after MESSIAH formed, the band finally played Greece. Minutes after that first, we captured another: Marcus Seebach’s first interview. A brief conversation, but a special addition to the band’s story.
Many thanks to Marcus Seebach, Steve Karrer and R.B. Brögi for their time and good humor — and to everyone who continues to support extreme metal.
